At the Mansfield Art Center, we like mixing paint, but we think it’s more fun when we can combine art with education! Beginning in January our winter classes will start and most classes run for a span of eight weeks. Our youth classes introduce children to a variety of art forms, including drawing, painting, ceramics, and more. For adults we have evening classes, which teach skills in jewelry making, pottery, ceramics, glass fusion, portrait painting and drawing.

Aside from our weekly scheduled classes, we have four special workshops that we offer. They are a fun experience, where each month attendees spend 1 to 2 hours during an afternoon and leave with a completed painting or project. And each month there is a different project! Following is a little bit about each one.

  • Kids & Canvas
This is a fun afternoon event for children because even if they have never painted before, they will receive step by step instructions and will be able to leave with a completed painting. This is a fun way to help develop their listening skills and learn art techniques at the same time. The cost is only $15/child and the art supplies are included. Children are welcome to bring snacks and a beverage to enjoy while painting. The suggested ages for this event are 6 through 14 years and parents may plan to drop off their children and return after class is finished, about 1 ½ hours. Upcoming Kids & Canvas workshops are this Saturday, December 17, and into the New Year, you may sign up for these future Saturdays: January 7, February 25 and/or March 11.
  • Free Art Saturday
This free sponsored event is made possible by skilled instructors and a dedicated group of volunteers. Each monthly workshop centers around different techniques and materials. Projects are guided from start to finish and it is a class designed for parents and children to create, learn and have fun together. Likewise, parents are encouraged to stay with their child to assist if needed. Reservations are required for this free class, as space is limited. The suggested grades for participation are K-5. Three upcoming Saturdays in 2017 are: January 28, February 25 and March 25. All classes last an hour and the times are from 11am to 12pm.
  • Family Art Night
This event for the whole family is designed to accommodate a variety of skill levels. These classes are great for families, beginners, date nights, kids and adults. Projects coming up in the New Year will be wind chimes, a bird house and a beehive jar. Clay projects will be glazed and then left at the center to be fired. Pieces will be ready to be picked up 2-3 weeks after the event. The cost is only $10/person. These workshops take place on Friday evenings from 5:30-7pm and the upcoming dates for these are: January 13, February 17 and March 10.
  • Cork & Easel
This twice-monthly event is for 21 years or older. Bring a beverage of your choice, snacks, and a friend. Enjoy two and a half hours of socializing while painting on canvas. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never held a brush before! Our instructor will take you through each step and you will leave with a painting ready to hang on your wall! Art supplies are included. This event requires a paid reservation at least 2 days prior to the event. The cost is $35/person and is scheduled on either Friday or Saturday evenings. Our next event Is December 17, but check this website for upcoming dates. Through March, the 2017 dates are: Saturday, January 7 & Friday, January 27; Friday, February 10 & Saturday, February 25; Saturday, March 11 & Friday, March 31.

It’s easy to register for any of these programs right from this website. Under the Events tab dropdown menu, choose the event you would like, pick the date and click on register! There is something for everyone to enjoy and we hope to see you in the classroom!
