Attention to our area homeschool friends! We believe art is an important and fundamental part of a child’s education, and, therefore, we have some great news we’d like to pass along to you!

The 47th annual Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition opens April 23rd at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus. This exhibition offers an excellent opportunity for up-and-coming young artists to gain experience in showing their work in a competition, or the possibility of scholarships to help further their art education. This is a juried exhibition that is open to all students throughout Ohio, including those which are schooled at home.

It is important to note that information regarding the exhibition, including submission dates, is sent from the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition Executive Director’s office. Ohio regional public and charter schools receive this information and make it available to their student body.

For homeschool families, this means being proactive in finding information regarding submission dates. The good news is this information can be found on the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition website! Judging dates are listed, with contact names as well as phone numbers for each of the regional directors. Here is the link: . The judging date for Mansfield students in the North Central Region Area is March 4th at the Ontario High School. This is judging for the Governor’s Exhibition in Columbus, and anyone interested should call the regional director listed on the above link first.

Once the jurying process is complete, artwork is sent to Columbus to be part of the Governor’s Show. In addition, a selection is picked to be on display locally here at the Mansfield Art Center. The 2017 Annual Regional High School Art Exhibition is March 18 through April 15, 2017. This annual tradition showcases the talent of our region’s participating High Schools, including homeschool students. Please visit our website page here for more information, or call us at 419.756.1700.

In closing, we’d also like to mention that Mansfield Art Center is offering two art classes for homeschoolers! The classes meet once a week for a total of eight weeks. The two classes are designed for K-3rd grades, and for grades 4th through 8th.  These classes explore different artists, art history, cultures, and techniques. Our Spring Classes begin in March and schedules will be available at the center by the end of this month!

Thank you! We hope you found this information valuable!
