Batik is one of the "resist" processes for making designs on fabric, like Tie Dye, Shibori, Serti technique, etc., using wax on fabric to prevent dye from penetrating the cloth.
Wax is applied to fabric, followed by dye. Batik is the process of applying a wax resist to fabric and overdyeing to create your pattern. This technique originated in Indonesia but there are also traditions of wax resist in Africa and India.
Participant will learn to stretch their cotton fabric on frames, apply wax with special wax tool tjanjing, lay the dyes onto the fabric, crimple, dry and iron. With an array of colors to choose from, the only thing you need to bring is your imagination.
Remember, we are playing it safe for everyone so we wear our masks and keep our social distances at all times.
